How are you doing today?

We are living in extraordinary times together.

The impact and circumstances we’re each facing are different and yet the uncertainty, existential threat and demand for adaptation are universally shared.

With so much in the outer world drastically different, I find myself leaning even more heavily and steadily into my primary relationships.

The other day my husband and I were swimming. In the middle of the lake we finally got a quiet moment to talk. In those precious few minutes it was as if time suspended, the fog cleared and we were able to recognize that we were both afraid.

Afraid for the state of the world.
Afraid for the things we hold most dear and sacred.
Afraid for what the future may bring.

Naming it and sharing it did not change anything in our immediate reality or the larger world and yet with that simple act of recognition and connection we both finished the swim feeling relieved.

This is the power of human connection and relationship.

We have the power to unburden each other.

To listen.
To witness.
To offer empathy and care.
To share the load when and where we can.

Relationships are not easy, but sometimes offering a moment of generosity or kindness can be.

Right now I’m putting genuine expressions of care at the top of my priority list because I do believe the small stuff can go a long way.

Three Quotes to Contemplate:

“We never know how our small activities will affect others through the invisible fabric of our connectedness.”

-Grace Lee Boggs

“It turns out that trust is in fact earned in the smallest moments. It is earned not through heroic deeds, or even highly visible actions, but through paying attention, listening and gestures of genuine care and connection.”

-Brene Brown

“Healing is a practice. It’s not a one-time thing or an idea. If I get up and do a bunch of exercises and repeat them, over time my muscles will get stronger. Healing is a practice just like that.”

-Marnita Schroedl

One Question For You:

If you knew that your every breath, thought, feeling and behavior had the power to impact yourself and others, how would you show up differently today?

As always, I’m sending my heartfelt care and strength to you wherever you’re at on your journey.

In service,
Emma
